Electricity in Europe

electricity in Europe

This looks super safe, right?

The positioning of electrical outlets in Europe can get very creative. Look at this picture, for instance. It was taken in the bedroom I’m subletting on the attic-floor of a cute little house in Amsterdam. Only the way I have to plug in my computer is not so cute. The only outlets are on the roof beams, so my computer, camera and phone chargers are constantly dangling from the ceiling.

These outlets may be strangely located, but at least they all work. That’s more than I can say about my outlets in Italy!

30 to 30 update: Italian beaches

Swam in the Mediterranean

I promise I went in...

This post’s a shortie:

I crossed off another item on my bucket list a few weeks ago when I went to Sportona, Italy. It’s probably one of the least-beautiful beaches in the country, but at least it was a beach. And I swam in the Mediterranean Sea! I still, however, inadvertently tell people I swam in the ocean. “Swimming in the sea” still sounds so strange to my American ears.

On another note, I was officially the palest person on the beach that day. Yay for me and my Irish tan!

MTV Europe

I should've celebrated 4th of July in Holland!

In other old news, I’ve moved! I started an internship in Amsterdam 2 weeks ago and am just blogging about it now. I’m working at a startup on some pretty interesting stuff and have been very happy with everything so far… except Holland’s weather.

This pic is from the only American streaming TV site I can make work in Europe- MTV.com. (AKA quality and age-appropriate programming). The reason I’ve been forced to watch MTV is that it’s been “trash TV” weather here in Holland for the past two weeks.

Side note: Trash TV weather is when it’s so bad outside you just stay on your couch watching crappy reality show marathons and eating junk food.

Anyway, it’s been great catching up on “The Jersey Shore”, but this weather does have me wondering. Why has it rained every single time I go somewhere in Europe???

But on a lighter note, it’s 64 degrees here as opposed to the 103 back in NYC. I will take rain over sweltering heat anytime!
